Comic Book Series: Team GREAT
Chaplain Greg Granderson, formerly of the Clarksville, Tennessee, Police Department but now a State Support Chaplain with the Kentucky National Guard, decided to combine his desire to inspire and motivate children and youth through the G.R.E.A.T. Program with his lifelong love of superhero comic books. The result is his own comic book series honoring the real-life heroes who give their time, energy, and commitment on a regular basis to teach children and youth how to make good choices and become productive members of their communities. Team GREAT is intended as a fun way to reinforce the messages of the G.R.E.A.T. Elementary School Curriculum, using a superhero comic book format in a futuristic setting. Chaplain Granderson plans three issues in the series, each addressing two of the elementary curriculum lessons.
Although Chaplain Granderson sought and received feedback and suggestions from other G.R.E.A.T. instructors and officials, Team GREAT is entirely his creation. Many hours of work went into the design and development of this graphic story. The G.R.E.A.T. Program applauds Chaplain Granderson for his creativity, perseverance, and dedication to improving the lives of children and youth.
Chaplain Granderson hopes that other G.R.E.A.T. instructors will be able to use his creation to spur interest among their students who are comic book fans. The first issue of Team GREAT, "Decisions and Outcomes," complements Lessons 1 and 2 of the elementary curriculum, the second issue, "Anger Management," complements Lessons 3 and 4 of the elementary curriculum, and the final issue, “Damage Control,” compliments Lessons 5 and 6 of the elementary curriculum.
